Opportunities abound for writers of all stripes, from all over the world, in the form of competitions, calls for submissions for literary publications and fellowships. We can’t catch them all, but there’s a whole world of resources out there where you can find out more!

These platforms are a great place to keep track of opportunities for writers or find assistance in developing your craft. Everything from new writing and opportunities to writing tips and worldbuilding tools is right at your fingertips!

Brittle Paper: features exciting African writers, wonderful pieces and resources for writers.

Africa in Dialogue: presents long-form interviews with African storytellers on a variety of topics. They also host an internship programme for aspiring interviewers to hone their skills.

After School Africa: shares competitions for young Africans interested in essay writing, as well as other educational opportunities.

African Speculative Fiction Society: focuses on African science fiction and fantasy and organizes the Nommos Awards.

Mafoko Manuscript Services: provides top-notch editing services.

Authors Publish Magazine: provides advice on getting published and sends a regular list of publications that you can submit your work to.

Inkitt: provides a reader-based publishing platform as well as advice and other resources to help you get your work out there.

Writing Competitions: does exactly what the name says – tells you all about writing competitions!

Literary Hub: covers all things literary and features a lot of insightful articles.

Nerdbuilding: helps you generate a settlement for your fictional world, including all the details that will help flesh it out and make it logical (population, geography, climate, etc.).
